There is a time where my parents had visited me at my boarding school and they talked to me for like 10 minutes then they turned to their phones i sat their for two hours looking at them using their phones and it was at that moment that I really began hating smartphones

I didn't have a smartphone till about 2 yrs ago when Tracfone said my phone I carried in my car for emergencies, which I kept in the glovebox, was going to be obsolete and they wanted to know what I wanted to replace it... a flip phone or a smartphone. I chose the smartphone only because I wanted to get some apps to use in my hobby. I hadn't even turned it on for several months till a few days ago to check the battery. I don't need a phone basically because there is no one I want to talk too!

I don't get the point when people say: You need a phone for emergencies. And how is a phone supposed to help me? Yes, then you can notify people. And how are they supposed to help me when I'm 4000 kilometers away on the other side of the world? Am I supposed to call my mother and jam her ears full when I've broken my leg walking? Sure, I've got nothing else to do but chat in the middle of the wilderness, right? You cann call al emergency doctor. In the middle of the wilderness? Sure! This is the brain-dead thinking of modern-day urbanites who are unable to survive without technology.

At least my wife's family have a rule, no phones at dinner, house or going out. Her and I literally can talk for 4 hours on a car ride without even checking our phones. We don't use ours on dates too,or when eating dinner at home. We also won't be giving our kids phones until when her and I got our first phone. 15-16 and it was a flip phone

I don't have a smartphone. But I am no stranger to technology. I have a desktop computer, a TG6 camera, a handheld GPS for hikes and one for our minivan. My wife has a smartphone however. A desktop computer can be plenty distracting, just like a smartphone ...
I still use an old NOKIA [Black one]. Small screen; Telephone, Texting, Calculator and that's about it.
That was me before my change of bank necessitated a smartphone, I was happy with text and email....

It's not just the smartphone, it's the completely blasé way in which the current generation and to a certain extent the one before does not value privacy or being circumspect with their own information. They put it all out there and don't care who sees it.
I have never had a "smartphone", and never will, unless it is something to use my sledgehammer on. That actually sounds like fun. Smashing one smartphone after another. I have an old school flip phone that is NOT connected to the internet. It makes and receives phone calls, and has voice mail. I delete the call record every time I get a call.
The people who are smarter than the rest of the population...
